Nah.

This is it! My very first post! Not even just my first post on this site, my first post EVER. I’ve never blogged. I’ve always wanted to, but didn’t know where to start (thank you Squarespace AND my BFF) or what to write about (thank you B3 and B4!). I definitely didn’t think anything I had to say was interesting…and it probably still isn’t. But…I find myself narrating even the most mundane moments of my day and I figured I should probably find an outlet for the voices. Oddly enough- my narrator is usually a man with a Latino accent (thank you ‘Jane the Virgin’).

So, here I am. Blogging. About nothing. Literally about Nah. Because “Nah” is the word of the week. Three days ago, B3 discovered this word and since then, I’ve heard it 5,632…5,633 times. It’s now the answer to every question. Do you want a bath? Nah. Do you want to give your baby brother a hug? Nah. Do you want some brussel sprouts? Nah. Ok, I saw the last one coming.

It’s become so automatic that I’m hearing it as an answer to questions that would otherwise be responded to with a resounding affirmative. He quickly catches himself, however, so he doesn’t miss out on anything he really wants. Such as ice cream. “Baby, do you want ice cream?” Immediately he starts “nah…..” then his “nah” quickly converts into a “Mmmm-hmmmm!” accompanied by a violent head shaking-just in case I missed his retraction.

For the most part, I’ve really enjoyed the learning to talk stage. B3 is brilliant- but a man of very few words, which makes each word even more special. I’m so intrigued to learn which words make enough of an impression for him to learn and repeat. For example, he learned the word thunder. That’s lot of syllables for a 23 month old. But here in the hanging-chad state, thunder is a daily event and since he’s fascinated by it, he learned how to say it.

I don’t know what Diane & Roma style brainwashing impressed the word “nah” into my sweet boy’s brain, but my fingers are crossed that it will be short-lived. I’m hoping that maybe next week, the word I’ll hear 6,834…6,835 times will be Yes.
